The Giro d'Italia was part rally and part road held on the roads and tracks of Italy from 1973 and 1980.
The pair of Gilles Villeneuve and Walter Rohrl with navigation by Christian Geistdorfer won the race but were then disqualified for having used the motorway as a short-cut during the event.
