HISTORY
After 20 years of fruitless participations, 1970 is a turning point in the history of Porsche in Le Mans 24 Hours, because the factory wins for the first time and even completes the 2 other steps on the podium.
It is the last time that the trade company, established in Salzburg, Austria, engages two Porsche cars at Le Mans but the result is quite remarkable. In fact the victory goes to the Porsche 917K #23 with the team of Herrmann and Attwood.
The 917 LH #25 of Vic Elford and Kurt Ahrens takes pole position and also beats the best lap time in race. Although the LH #25 must give up after 18 hours racing, betrayed by its engine, while at mid-race it was in 3rd place.
