MAGNATECH COPPER STEEL SLOT CAR TRACK BRAID

Magnatech Braid description:
Copper-steel slot car track braid is a highly durable alternative to copper track braid. Each strand has a steel wire core surrounded by a copper cladding that has been tinned to prevent oxidation. Current carrying capacity (Ampacity) & abrasion resistance is better than pure copper. The added bonus of a magnetically attractive material means all currently available scales of slot cars can utilize traction magnets.
Magnatech braid carried in stock is 3/16" wide (5mm) - the exact width depends on how much tension is applied when laying it.

Braid length calculations:
Remember that braid length is = # slots x 2 + pass-throughs. Each pass-through for a joint will need at least an extra 300mm of braid (4 x 75mm tails). Even a 75mm tail is pretty short when you're lying on your back trying to make 2 pieces of braid connect. Allow for a pass-through for each joint or even if you have no joints consider a pass-through so that a joint can be added if necessary without cutting the braid. Power taps shorten the return path to your power source & help prevent uneven power or surging. Generally one tap every 8-10 metres' is adequate.

BRAID & SLOT RECESS

The size of the recess depends on the size of the braid - So I’ll give an example with typical sizes, but its wise to check the braid you’ve got, and adjust the size of the recess if necessary. Track braid is typically between about 5 and 6mm wide when laid. The exact width depends on how much tension is applied when laying it.

BRAID ADHESIVE

High-grade (heavy solids) contact cements are the standard braid adhesives, Industrial quality (not craft type) hot melt glue is also good.
3M Clear 5ml Thick (1/4" wide double stick tape), is the easiest way to attach new braid to a sealed braid shoulder. Adhesion & durability is comparable to glue with less hassle as shown above.
